Mother of slain woman wants to forgive attacker - Nation | The Star Online

forgiveness on Family - BUKIT MERTAJAM: The mother of a young woman who was stabbed to death on Valentine's Day at her home in Alma, near here, is ready to forgive her attacker.

Siew Yeow Kim, in her 50s, conveyed this to Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng, who was present at the woman's home in Taman Hwa Seng where a Taoist priest conducted the final rites on Tan Ching Chin, yesterday.

“She (the mother) wants to forgive him (the assailant) and wants the police to release him,” Chong said.

Siew was too distraught to be interviewed.

On Thursday, a maid found Tan, 24, lying naked in a pool of blood at her house, with three stab wounds on her body.

Her 31-year-old boyfriend, an engineer, had allegedly stabbed her before turning the knife on himself.

Chong said the man was now under police custody at the intensive care unit of the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.

Meanwhile, Berapit Barisan Nasional coordinator Lau Chiek Tuan, who was also at the funeral, expressed shock over the incident, saying the victim was related to his daughter-in-law.

“Tan attended the first birthday celebration of my granddaughter in November last year,” he said.

A family friend described the victim as a humble person.

Tan was cremated at 3pm yesterday.
